Lily Tomlin, a Michigan native, is one of America’s foremost comediennes, with an extraordinarily broad entertainment career spanning television, movies, theater, animation and stand-up comedy. She has never before appeared in Grand Rapids. Detroit-born Tomlin is a graduate of Cass Tech and started in theater at Wayne State University. She subsequently became a national hit on the iconic “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh In” television show with her comedic portrayals of Ernestine, the condescending telephone operator and Edith Ann, the precocious six year old. That success led to many movie roles, including “Nashville,” “9 to 5″ and last year, “Admission.” She’s been on prime time television hits like “Murphy Brown,” “The West Wing,” “Will and Grace” and even “The Simpsons.” Tomlin has earned seven Emmy awards for various broadcast roles, a Grammy for one of her comedy albums, and a pair of Tony’s, one for best actress for her one-woman Broadway show, “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.” Her humor and observations are penetrating, funny and endearing–and that’s the truth!
