Participants will enjoy Charlie Chaplins’ film The Gold Rush\, accompanied by organist Dave Calendine on the GRPM’s Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Organ.  \n\n\n\nIn this classic silent comedy\, the Little Tramp (Charles Chaplin) heads north to join in the Klondike gold rush. Trapped in a small cabin by a blizzard\, the Tramp is forced to share close quarters with a successful prospector (Mack Swain) and a fugitive (Tom Murray). Eventually able to leave the cabin\, he falls for a lovely barmaid (Georgia Hale)\, trying valiantly to win her affections. \n\n\n\nAbout Dave Calendine Organist \n\n\n\nDave Calendine\, a Warren\, Ohio\, native\, started his musical career with the player piano at the age of 3. By age 5\, he was playing some of the music without the aid of the player mechanism. By age 7\, he was playing at his church\, where he also started to teach himself the organ at age 15.  \n\n\n\nWhen at age 16\, Dave first heard the magnificent sound of the theatre organ\, he was instantly hooked and determined to play the theatre organ at whatever the cost. His wish came true when\, one night after a movie\, the management of the Akron Civic Theatre let him play. Shortly after that\, he was hired as one of the house organists at the 2\,678-seat movie palace. Theyoungest person to ever hold the position\, he entertained audiences there for over 3 years.  \n\n\n\nAfter leaving the Akron Civic Theatre\, he continued on\, playing at several restaurants featuring theatre pipe organs\, such as the Organ Grinder (Toronto\, Canada)\, and Shady Nook (Cincinnati\, Ohio). Dave has also played several theatre pipe organs throughout the United States and Canada.  \n\n\n\nIn 2000\, he went on his first overseas solo concert tour through Germany and Switzerland\, playing to packed houses.  \n\n\n\nDave currently holds the position of House Organist for Detroit’s fabulous Fox Theatre\, holding that position for 29 years now. He has also played for nine years for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular\, featuring the world-famous Rockettes.  \n\n\n\nDave is the organist for the Detroit Tigers MLB team at Comerica Park. He is also one of two organists for the Detroit Red Wings NHL team at Little Caesars Arena.  \n\n\n\nDave has served on the Board of Directors for the American Theatre Organ Society. He is the past Chairman of the Board and current Treasurer for ATOS. He has also been the Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the Motor City Theatre Organ Society. He has also been on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Detroit Theatre Organ Society\, as well as a former President of the Flint Theatre Organ Club\, an auxiliary support group for the Flint Institute of Music.  \n\n\n\nBoard of Trustees of the Musical Box Society\, International (MBSI) and as a member of the Automatic Musical Instrument Collectors’ Association (AMICA) and The Carousel Organ Association of America (COAA). He is the past Chairman of the Mid-America Chapter of MBSI\, and past secretary of the Lake Michigan Chapter of MBSI. His work with mechanical instruments has garnered him awards\, including being honored by the Governor of the State of Montana for his work on the Bovey Collection of Mechanical Instruments. They have had cancer. Some of these comedians are cancer free and some still continue to navigate their cancer journey. These comedians share their stories but with a twist.  \n\n\n\nBrian B.   \n\n\n\nBrian is the creator & MC of the weekly stand-up comedy show The Sunday Night Funnies. Now in its sixteenth year\, close to 1\,300 different comedians have performed at it over the years. The Funnies have been a part of LaughFest from the start and have raised over $28\,500 for Gilda’s Club of Grand Rapids. Brian had stage four squamous cell carcinoma and has been cancer free since May of 2012.   \n\n\n\nBen Bradshaw  \n\n\n\nBen Bradshaw is a young comic who has “shared custody” between the Grand Rapids and Traverse City pockets of the greater Michigan comedy scene. Aside from poking fun at being a valet attendant in his late twenties\, Ben also sheds an original\, funny light on his experience beating Stage 3 Testicular Cancer. Ben has been featured on the Traverse City Comedy Festival and LaughFest. He has performed at the Traverse City Comedy Club\, Dr. Grins\, and has hosted for Harry Settel. Ben also co-hosts USS Comedy\, the weekly open mic in Traverse City. Come see Ben live! And if you don’t\, he’ll pull the cancer card on you.  \n\n\n\nCdub  \n\n\n\nCdub “C” is on the older side. There is no time that is not past his bed time. He’s a cancer survivor who enjoys candlelight dinners\, walks on the beach\, and most of all\, spending his days above ground.  He has hosted at Second City in Chicago and performed at The Laugh Factory\, One Night Stan’s and Mark Ridleys Comedy Castle.    \n\n\n\nRob Bagley   \n\n\n\nRob has been doing Stand-Up for over 6 years. He is a 3-time Cancer Survivor. If he gets cancer for a 4th time we all get free Subway\, Fingers Crossed. Rob finds humor in his cancer treatments and his everyday life. His Make-A- Wish was to meet Sandra Bullock but changed his mind and his wish is to see you at the show. He loves meeting people at the show especially if your blood type is O\, just in case. Rob’s dream is to make it on TV\, obviously to be in an infomercial about how chemotherapy makes you look more handsome.    \n\n\n\nKim Cook   \n\n\n\nMaking her first appearance in the Cancer Survivor Showcase\, Kim is a quick-witted Southerner and a Second City alum. A recent breast cancer survivor\, Kim brings humor and resilience to the stage\, sharing her journey with warmth and a lighthearted perspective. She has an honest\, down-to-earth style\, finding laughter in the everyday and the extraordinary.   \n\n\n\nAdam Degi   \n\n\n\nAdam is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after two-time cancer-surviving\, bald\, white comedians with a Hungarian last name in the world. You can add fatherhood\, well-crafted jokes\, and improvisation to his repertoire. He’s been a guest on most of the comedy-based podcasts you’ve never heard of\, and he has a real knack for making your dad laugh. Slowly\, she began realizing that cooking was more than just a way to pay for her stirrup pants\, music cassettes and perms. She soon moved to East Lansing where she received her BFA at MSU while working in restaurants near campus. Wanting to live in a big city after graduation\, she moved to San Francisco where she fell in love with the city and a handsome Italian who was visiting from Milan. After living in Italy for 3 years and spending time in the kitchen with her new mother in law\, her passion for Italian Casalinga cuisine grew stronger. Jenna worked for small businesses\, corporations and also tried few of her own small entrepreneurial ideas. She finally realized it was time to take the leap and open Amore Trattoria Italiana in 2010. Her dream was to bring back the mom & pop feel by using locally sourced products and meeting her guests in the dining room much like dinner at home. Maurizio & Jenna are proud to continue winning food service awards during their 10 years of business. She was recently surprised with $10\,000 from Mike Rowe on his show called Returning the Favor so that Jenna could continue to feed frontline workers during the COVID pandemic. She continues to learn by hosting culinary trips all over Italy twice a year with Onward Travel. If you see a sparkly pink suv on the streets with a “Food Hug“ license plate\, that’s her.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKristin Hirsch\n\n\n\nKristin Hirsch is a local comedian\, performer\, writer and instructor. For the last eight years she has been the director of the Grand Rapids Improv Festival which brings improv troupes from all over the Midwest and beyond to Grand Rapids each fall. Kristin is also the founder and director of Lass Laugh Comedy Festival – the area’s only event dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the talents of women in comedy.
